Eau Thermale Avene TriAcneal - an advanced, technological skincare product - fades residual marks, anti-acne

Eau Thermale Avene TriAcneal

First and foremost, do not use the following product if you are pregnant. Eau Thermale Avene TriAcneal is a highly potent treatment formulated to prevent blemishes and fade residual marks in adult and adolescent acne prone skin. Described as an adapted 'dermo-cosmetic' - a dermatology-based cosmetic, this advanced skincare is a synergy of three active ingredients - Efectiose, Retinaldehyde and Glycolic Acid. Efectiose is Avene’s patented anti-inflammatory. It mimics the skin’s own naturally occurring anti-inflammatory sugars, it mixes with the skin’s own sebum and reduces the swelling and redness of pimples. Retinaldehyde prevents the thickening of the skin and the formation of spot-provoking blackheads and whiteheads and it is antibacterial. Retinaldehyde is involved also in the synthesis of collagen and elastin fibres which fill and refine pores and reduce residual marks or post-acne scarring. Glycolic Acid, the third active ingredient, has a mild, non-irritating, exfoliating or skin peeling effect, which ‘decongests’ and smoothes the skin. Glycolic Acid, an Alpha-Hydroxy-Acid or AHA, extracted from natural sources sugarcane, pineapple, cantaloupe melon or grapes, eradicates acne-causing dairy spots and closes open pores, reducing the possibility of further breakouts. This trio of active ingredients forms a very powerful product. The Avene Thermal Spring Water contained in all Avene products is clinically proven to have soothing and anti-irritating dermatological effects on sensitive skin in particular.

I found when I first applied the Eau Thermale Avene TriAcneal my skin tingled sensitively. This indicates the product is working but it is suggested in this case you apply the product less frequently. At first I made the mistake of applying the product to my entire face overnight. It tended to redden areas that are already healthy, smooth and acne free. You should apply Eau Thermale Avene TriAcneal minimally to trouble spots only, oily patches that are congested or areas post-acne for effective and efficient results.

The condition of my skin was smoothed and refined from the first application with open pores obviously tightened overnight, the beginning of a very exact and potent, non-drying correcting treatment. Until recently, decongesting beauty treatments containing glycolic acid were available only at beauty salons, an expensive, supervised treatment overseen by skincare specialists. Even at reduced potency, Eau Thermale Avene TriAcneal is a super strength emulsion with long term, clearly visible beneficial effects on the appearance of the skin with improved tone and texture, fewer blemishes and a complexion relieved of after-acne residual marks. The residual marks on my skin continue to fade and acne is under control. Eau Thermale Avene TriAcneal is an advanced, technological skincare product. Apply minimally at night after cleansing. Always remove this product in the morning and wear a daytime Sun Protection Factor as Glycolic Acid causes skin sensitivity to sunlight. £23 for 30ml. Available to buy from Boots stores and independent pharmacies.

The biggest fashion labels more recently ally with the biggest beauty brands for maximum exposure - Autumn/Winter 2014 trends in makeup

Chanel Fall/Winter 2014 Ready-to-Wear Collection
Makeup by Tom Pecheux
Hair by Sam McKnight

As seen first on the international runways, beauty looks are conceptualized and applied by leading makeup artists to complement the designer collections – Giorgio Armani, Tom Ford, Prada, Gucci, Versace, Valentino, Marc Jacobs or Burberry Prorsum. Trends in makeup happen twice yearly, seasonally in Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter, like clothing. Beauty products, makeup and skincare, are released and become available in step with the fashion industry. The biggest fashion labels more recently ally with the biggest beauty brands for maximum exposure. Beauty is visible - the designer lipstick, the moisturiser, the perfume, the nail varnish. The beauty adverts are everywhere, they’re trans-media. Beauty is idealized, framed and packaged, an update or advance on what happened before. Beauty is fashion’s most lucrative, accessible and affordable market. Particular to women, even during recession, beauty sales are gigantic. In Britain alone, the beauty industry is worth £16.1 billion a year.

The billion pound market leaders are the names you know. L’Oreal (especially for lipstick – in my opinion, exceptional) and Max Factor; the classic American brand Estee Lauder (including its newer sister brand Origins) and the Canadian Elizabeth Arden; Maybelline (by now there is no other volumising mascara), and Europeans Givenchy, Chanel and YSL Beauty, all three designer clothing collection related. The Topshop range of makeup, and there is an accompanying scheduled runway show, is one of the best - blusher in Topshop pink, especially the Blush Stick, and Topshop pink lipsticks like ‘Brighton Rock’.

Trends revolve the beauty industry. The season’s forthcoming trends for Autumn/Winter 2014 include pink nudes in lipstick. Pink nude colours are by now a new classic. Metallics in clothing are reflected in the makeup - metallic colour eye shadows especially in blue and colour liners are here to suit the clothing. The focus this season is on the eyes and includes extra-length false eyelashes. A more neutral makeup is here also with the appearance of other eye shadow colours in shades of taupe - a grey or brown tan. In hairstyles, there are braids and sweeping fringes frame the face. In the adverts for the forthcoming Autumn/Winter 2014, we will see the new beauty product, its formula, the innovation, the colours, the application and the effect as perfected in the genius hands of backstage makeup artists, skincare included.

Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil 2-in-1 Gel Shadow and Liner - super soft, light and highly blendable

Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil
10 Fierce Lime
Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil
05 Caramel Rage

The Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil is a new 2-in-1 combined Gel Eye Shadow and Eye Liner. The Max Factor gel formula, an alternative to powder, is super soft, light and highly blendable. It allows a fluid application of the eight highly pigmented eye shadow/liner colours. The pencil is for precision along the lower lash line and the inside waterline of the eye also. It should be sharpened for extra, buildable colour and definition. Caramel Rage, Fierce Lime, Vicious Moss, Untamed Pink, Savage Silver, Bold Sapphire, Brazen Gold and Blue Ice Fury. The range of eight colours is an array, each one an unusual take on grey, green, brown and number 40 Brazen Gold is a superb, golden corn yellow. You will find the number of each colour just under the pencil cap in small print. These superb colours are metallic and very current, providing a seasonal Summer finish.

Colour number 10 Fierce Lime is a light, I think, apple green. 15 Vicious Moss is a light silver grey with a hint of khaki. 25 Savage Silver is a much darker smoky grey, an ideal colour for night time - it’s dramatic. Number 05 Caramel Rage is a classic, neutral brown, and an excellent, wearable daytime shade. Each colour blends beautifully and smoothly across the lower lash line and the eyelids. The Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil is not available in black. Extend the stayability of this light colour gel formula by using a shadow primer on the eyelids but I found this optional. This pencil is as excellent an eye shadow as it is an eye liner although it is not waterproof. It is opthalmologically tested for safe use or allergies around the delicate eye area. Colour eye shadow and liner in one, the Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil 2-in-1 Gel Shadow and Liner in eight unique shades - £5.99 (9G). Available online or at Boots and most high street stockists. The Max Factor Wild Shadow Pencil 2-in-1 Gel Shadow and Liner - another evolution in the technology of beauty.

Bio-Oil - an expert product

Bio-Oil £8.95 60ml

With its vital skin building ingredients, Bio-Oil is a multi-tasking, in my opinion, wonder product. It is described as specialist skincare for scars, stretch marks, uneven skin tone - also known as ‘pigmentation’ (often an after-effect on the skin of beauty treatments), aging skin and dehydrated skin on the face and the body – an agenda set by other oil-based skincare products. A lovely pink fluid, Bio-Oil is a most pleasant beauty product. The scent is of the nourishing natural plant oils it contains - calming lavender at first and then invigorating and mildly antiseptic rosemary, skin cell renewing calendula (or marigold) and chamomile which cares for sensitive skin. This oil is supplemented with Vitamin A for elasticity, tone and skin texture, and moisturizing Vitamin E, two key skincare vitamins. Bio-Oil is non-greasy. It doesn’t accidentally stain your clothing. It contains a breakthrough ingredient Purcellin Oil which reduces the thickness of the oil and ensures more efficient absorption to the second layer of the skin where Bio-Oil performs its various amazing functions in skincare. For it’s entire agenda, see the human body visual accompanying this post below.

Stretch marks are not a result of the skin expanding when we gain weight. Stretch marks happen when the skin surface reduces again. Bio-Oil treats stretch marks and also the sagging skin stretch marks can leave behind. It rehabilitates the skin with its skin building ingredients and it reduces the possibility of stretch marks again. I applied Bio-Oil to vague stretch marks on my upper right thigh and the moisture it provided made them instantly disappear. Proving an incredible efficacy after just two weeks, read details of a Bio-Oil stretch mark study here. It is suggested you use Bio-Oil for a minimum of three months. As a treatment for dehydrated skin on the face, I found Bio-Oil instantly smoothed and adequately moisturized. It is suggested you use your regular daily moisturiser with Bio-Oil for optimum glow. I now gently apply Bio-Oil as often as possible to my throat and neck, especially at night as a rejuvenating treatment. You will find this area needs specialist care. It ages more rapidly because of repeated head movements and all year round exposure to the sun, the most aging factor of all, although Bio-Oil does not contain a Sun Protection Factor. As an overall body moisturiser, it is intensive. I moisturise my stomach in particular and my arms and shoulders especially. And the Bio-Oil effect? In one word, it’s excellent.

Bio-Oil is tested for allergies, it’s preservative-free, suitable for sensitive skin, and is not tested on animals. 60ml £8.95. 125ml £14.95. 200ml £19.95. Available from Boots, Superdrug, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Morrisons, Savers, and independent pharmacies nationwide. Find more information on Facebook where product users testify to the efficacy of Bio-Oil and its many uses - https://www.facebook.com/biooiluk Bio-Oil is an expert product.

Model Lindsey Wixson Makeup by Aaron de Mey
In the following paragraph, Aaron de Mey describes changing and advancing the technology of makeup through beauty - DC
“It’s about me creating references and a lot of research. It’s about me inspiring the scientists and the laboratories. It’s about me inspiring the whole creativity. My definition of a makeup artist is bringing a sensitivity and a strong sensibility of beauty and femininity, really embracing the woman’s face and me not layering over a mass. It’s about me indulging a woman and taking something from her and being inspired by her…so that’s my job. It’s about creating beautiful textures and very new technologies within makeup and a general overall aesthetic” - Aaron de Mey, Makeup Artist - biography

Lacoste L!VE - an excellent scent for men

Lacoste Live Eau de Toilette £45 100ml

Presented in a blue flacon or bottle, it’s a glass cube with red graphics on white, and a white plastic cap – the newest fragrance from Lacoste, Lacoste L!VE for men. A most modern cube in shape, memorable, “an unexpected object”, Lacoste says, and the bold, primary colours outline their latest concept. Lacoste wanted a dynamic scent which generates energy in an urban setting with primary colours sparking creativity. The top note in Lacoste L!VE, the scent you first smell, is of lime, something fruity and balanced given depth by green leaves, aquatic notes, Guaiac wood and dark liquorice.

A male friend tested this fragrance and described it first as sporty and then as refreshing, a description which is closer to Lacoste’s original sports profile than the newer concepts behind this scent suggest. To me it smells fresh. The bold red, white and blue Lacoste L!VE colours mimic the look of sports clothing too - Rene Lacoste was the 1920’s French Grand Slam tennis star who first designed the tennis or polo shirt.

You may have seen the Lacoste L!VE TV advert featuring two young men, one a renowned graffiti artist Zoer, creating a life size 3D Lacoste L!VE environment. Launched in April 2014 at the Lacoste Desert Pool Party in California, other artists were invited to interpret the blue cube flacon on site and online. The hashtags #newfragrance and #newperspective will be used during a Lacoste social media digital campaign from July 2014 to mid-September 2014, inviting the public to share their photos on Instagram. See the signature Lacoste crocodile - such a classic French brand.

Lacoste L!VE Eau de Toilette 100ml £45/69 Euros. Lacoste L!VE Eau de Toilette 40ml £29/41 Euros. There is a Lacoste L!VE deodrant spray, deodrant stick and shower gel for men available from Lacoste boutiques in the UK and abroad.

Japonesque Pro Performance Lip Lacquer - a polished, glossy lip colour in eight fantastic shades

Japonesque Pro Performance Lip Lacquer
Japonesque Pro Performance Lip Lacquer
Shade 04

First, you notice the extra thick application so apply this formula sparingly, the Japonesque Pro Performance Lip Lacquer, a product I selected from the brand new Japonesque makeup line. This new makeup line complements an already existing, highly established range of professional, backstage makeup tools – Japonesque backstage makeup brushes are legendary. For a high shine, ‘lacquered’ finish, five out of five for coverage and it’s volumising  – a thick, non-sticky, polished, glossy lip colour in eight fantastic shades, including an ultra vibrant warm red (Shade 07) and a Japonesque peach (Shade 01). The Shade 04 I tested is a dark rose pink with a very natural, almost nude rose effect when worn. The wand applicator in a rectangular casing with pink marbled plastic in the design, enables accuracy and precision with its firm, exact, tapered brush, so professional a brush you know it’s Japonesque. The enriched formula hydrates and softens lips. It’s a long lasting colour. Layer this lip lacquer to increase lip volume. Available in all eight excellent Japonesque shades from Ulta.com 5ml $20 or £15 at selected John Lewis stores (Oxford Street, Kingston, Cardiff) and from JohnLewis.com

Kenzo Spring/Summer 2014 White Liner by Aaron de Mey

Makeup Artist Aaron de Mey
Hair by Anthony Turner for L'Oreal Professionel

“The makeup was crisp, gleaming, and sharp like the white-tipped crest of a wave. We went with white eyeliner - MAC Pure White Acrylic Paint - instead of punk’s usual black - and used an angled synthetic brush to draw a thin line. I applied the colour starting at the center of the lid and drew the line to the very outer corner of the eye, restarting it again at the inner-eye corner, and tracing the lash line to meet the center point."

Kiehl’s Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream - the ultimate in age prevention!

Kiehl's Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream
containing Copper PCA

Containing Copper PCA, Kiehl’s Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream, available with SPF30, is an anti-aging face cream for all ages. It’s a daily moisturiser which is scientifically proven to improve and strengthen skin elasticity by 32% within four weeks.

After cleansing and applied at night and mornings, I found my skin benefited from this amazing face cream after just two weeks. Kiehl’s Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream promises to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, prevent new wrinkles forming, smooth skin texture (through hydration) and minimize the appearance of pores from week one. Aging skin with weakened elasticity is visibly wrinkled, has enlarged/irregular-shaped pores and is rough in texture. Improved elasticity in the skin makes it look younger with a smooth appearance, fewer wrinkles, and fewer fine lines and enlarged pores. With the loss of elasticity (the elastin and collagen in our skin) beginning in our 20’s, maintaining elasticity is one early way of preserving the health and youth of your skin. This is a useful cream, an excellent anti-aging cream to use from, I would recommend, the age of 27 or 29 onwards in a skincare routine.

The way this cream works as one of the most technically advanced anti-aging creams you can buy at the moment is through its unique, hydrating combined formula of  Copper PCA, Abyssine, Calcium PCA and Apricot Kernel Oil. Abyssine is a naturally derived survival molecule which thrives under the extreme conditions of heat, pressure and toxicity. Apricot Kernel Oil is high in Vitamin E, aiding fast absorption. I found this cream is instantly absorbed and its smooth texture spreads easily on the skin. Copper is an element naturally present in the skin for its healthy appearance and it multi-functions in this moisturiser. It is an element which stimulates the production of elastin and remodels it. Copper is a vital antioxidant defending the skin against oxidative stress and, with Calcium, it maintains the health of the skin’s moisture barrier.

I found the Kiehl’s Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream visibly reduced fine lines on my forehead in under two weeks and my mid-40s skin gained an overall youthful, relaxed appearance. As a powerful wrinkle reducing cream, it is the mildest and most calming I have ever used, qualifying it for sensitive skincare. Its effect on the skin is completely softening. Apply gently to the neck also.

As one of the best age-erasing creams I have ever used, although not the most firming, I highly recommend the newest  Kiehl’s anti-aging offering in skincare, Kiehl’s Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream, £42 for 50ml. Available with SPF30 and as an eye cream, Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Eye Cream £32 for 14ml. Buy online or at Kiehl’s stores in the UK and worldwide. For the ultimate in age prevention. Fragrance free. Made in the USA.

Eau Thermale Avene Soothing Moisture Mask - a specialist product

Eau Thermale Avene
Soothing Moisture Mask

Developed for skin that has become dehydrated, weakened and reactive – red, tight and stinging, the Eau Thermale Avene Soothing Moisture Mask is a specialist product. Described as a 'dermo-cosmetic', it is a dermatology-based skincare cosmetic. For all skin types and sensitive skin especially, the Avene Soothing Moisture Mask contains Avene Thermal (hot) Spring Water, which originates as rain and with its soothing properties, filters through the French Cevennes Mountains absorbing minerals and elements for forty years until it reaches the spring. Avene originates in 1743 when the Avene Hydrotherapy Spring dedicated to dermatology was founded. The Eau Thermale Avene skincare line was launched in 1990.

Apply a thick layer of this highly moisturizing and restoring cream at night to a cleansed face and neck, leave for ten minutes and remove with a cotton pad. The Eau Thermale Avene Soothing Moisture Mask left my skin softly hydrated overnight and maintained hydration with repeated, consistent use of this thermal spring water product. The Avene moisture mask releases the healing properties of the spring water to the skin, anti-irritating as it is absorbed, calming. A tailored skincare routine for you is suggested through Eau Thermale Avene’s Skin Diagnosis online. For skin that has become dehydrated, weakened and reactive. Excellent French skincare you will find at the pharmacy. Available from Boots stores nationwide or online, or find via the Avene Store Locator. A very reasonable £11.50 for 50ml. Not tested on animals. Hypoallergenic (tested for allergies) and non-comodogenic (non pore clogging). Paraben (skin-damaging preservative) free. Fragrance free also.

Dr Organic Virgin Olive Oil Eye Serum

Dr Organic Virgin Olive Oil Eye Serum

Dr Organic Virgin Olive Oil Eye Serum is a recent discovery in my search for eye care that really works. Formulated to reduce puffiness, dark circles and under eye bags, it boosts collagen around the eye area - the protein that ‘glues’ the skin, and it promotes cell hydration. As with the Dr Organic Pomengranate Advanced Recovery Eye Cream, I found after three weeks, the skin around the eye was completely hydrated, smooth, and fine line free. The anti-aging ingredient in olives is a hydrating fruit oil rich in Oleic acid, a powerful anti-aging antioxidant. Dark circles around the eyes were less reduced by the Dr Organic Olive Oil Eye Serum - the Dr Organic Pomengranate Advanced Recovery Eye Cream was more effective in erasing dark circles completely but the Virgin Olive Oil Eye Serum achieves its aims.

Eye serums are recommended for all skin types including more mature, aging skin. You will notice the difference between an eye cream and a serum. Creams are made by mixing oil with water. Active ingredients are added. Creams are more suited to dry and normal skin types. A serum is cooling, lighter and more easily absorbed, less like a cream and more like a gel. Serums are water-based only and are a more concentrated way of delivering key ingredients to the skin. One factor determining your choice of a serum or a cream generally should be your skin type – creams are for drier or normal skin conditions and oil-free serums suit acne-prone or oily skin.

Apply sparingly by lightly tapping the Dr Organic Virgin Olive Oil Eye Serum twice daily around the delicate eye area using your ring finger, morning and at night after cleansing the skin to moisturize and rejuvenate. Apply also during the day if your skin is exposed to central heating which happens frequently during the winter months and drains moisture from the skin. An excellent product, this serum is an incredibly reasonably priced £9.29 for 15ml, the usual size for eye care. Available exclusively from Holland & Barrett stores nationwide or online. Suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Dr Organic is against animal testing. The Dr Organic Virgin Olive Oil Eye Serum is an honest little product.

Collection Cream Puff Moisturising Lip Cream

Collection Cream Puff in Fairy Cake
Shade Name: Fairy Cake
RRP: £2.99 GBP
Colour: Pinks
Undertone: Yellow
Finish: Matte
Opacity: Opaque
Lipcote Rating: 5

Cream Puff  Moisturising Lip Cream by Collection cosmetics is a brand new formula, a hybrid lip colour. Neither a lipstick nor a lip gloss, this lip cream dries to a matte finish. With powder microspheres and applied with a wand applicator, Collection Cream Puff Lip Cream is available in a range of four different colours - Fairy Cake, the shade I tested for the Lipcote site, is a coral pink; Cotton Candy is a dark rose; Powder Puff is a pale nude pink, and Angel Delight, a chocolate latte.

The immediate appeal of this product is its packaging, its excellent design, and also its extremely reasonable price. Available in a 5ml tube, it’s a small but sufficient amount as this vitamin-enriched formula is moisturizing and spreads extremely easily. The Cream Puff colour is not highly pigmented but is buildable. Apply two coats and allow to dry. Purse the lips together and set for a natural, matte finish. To seal your favourite colour from this range, I suggest you apply Lipcote minimally as the Cream Puff formula is light, smooth and creamy.

Lipcote and the Collection Cream Puff Lip Creams complement each other perfectly. The colour when it sets is long-lasting and Lipcote certainly seals it completely. The Collection Cream Puff Moisturising Lip Creams are a lovely line of lip colours. I recommend the Collection Cream Puff Moisturising Lip Creams to you highly. Available to buy at selected beauty retail outlets. Excellent value at £2.99!
